Data Security or Insecurity ?

Wow…. Another data breach in the spotlight.  Are you a Countrywide Mortgage customer ?

If you are read the article in it’s entirety….    HERE

It is truly unbelievable that once again these data breaches are happening right under the main stream media’s nose ! Are we too busy watching hurricanes to worry about whether or not our Social Security numbers and personal information are safe ?  This is completely inexcusable from a company the size of Countrywide.

As a business owner is YOUR data safe ?  Are you employing a cheap router given to you by the phone company or your data supplier ?  Don’t take chances….. Protect your customer’s data.

As always feel free to contact me for advice or to schedule a site survey to assure your compliance.

Secure or not secure……  that IS the question.

VOIP … Why, What and How ?

What is VOIP ?

VOIP is fast becoming a buzzword.  Early adopters have had mixed reviews and you will hear of both happy and unhappy users.  Why is this ?  In order to fully understand why, it is important to grasp the basic concepts of how this technology functions.

Essentially the old way was a simple pair of wires supporting a phone call.  These wires had a dedicated connection from one phone through the phone company to the phone on the other end.  Then came DSL (digital subscriber line).  DSL allowed the user to use data (internet) and the phone at the same time.  This is called convergence. Convergence allows both data and voice to be pushed through the same delivery method to the end user*.  VOIP is a converged service.

Why does it work for some …  but not others ?

This is a tough question to answer.  The variables are infinite.  Remember when a network (Voice and Data) is converged both data and voice must be optimized to function properly.  This optimization requires an analysis of the existing Data network and a full inventory of all current voice services.  This analysis is MANDATORY to guarantee a successful installation.

In many cases the reason that Voice suffers in deploying VOIP is that the LAN (local area network) does not support voice with priority.  With convergence the voice must be prioritized.  This prioritization of voice is called QOS (quality of service).  QOS is imperative for proper voice service over the data network.  Older (less than 2-3 years) data hardware usually is not suited for VOIP.

Another reason for unsuccessful deployments include the upstream data provider.  In many cases the VOIP or data provider does not own their data network.  It is not advisable to purchase a VOIP solution from a provider who does not own the network the voice and data is placed upon. This can be a disastrous idea.  The provider has to have some skin in the game in order to provide a quality solution to the end user.

What are the reasons for using VOIP ?

Possibly this is the most misunderstood piece of the puzzle.  The main reason for businesses is to reduce cost or increase productivity.  Keeping this in mind, VOIP lends itself very well to de-centralized operations or far flung enterprise where constant contact between employees is necessary.  In other situations VOIP can offer flexibility for ringing multiple phones, remote office access and increasing your clients impression of the size of your company.

VOIP lends itself well to almost any office or remote office operation if the preliminary steps are followed and the current office infrastructure will handle the added data load that convergence brings.

It would be a pleasure to review your companies needs, and provide a full analysis for your review.  Contact me via the means easiest to you and I will contact your company directly to see if VOIP can help your business model succeed.

Have a great September !

What are you doing with your data ?

Are you really using your data to benefit your business model ?

Most companies underutilize their data and do not receive the payback for gathering it.

Your clients are willing to give the data to you, but what do you do with it ?

Let’s not forget that data mining can yield results and predict trends with customer behaviors, product enhancements and marketing campaign effectiveness.

Take a look at this article here

And try to embrace the thought of using the data you gather to better serve your clients.

Happy Selling !
