Coming Trends

An emerging trend in Telecommunications is Communications as a service (CaaS). What is Caas ? Very simply it is IP Telephony hosted and delivered by a third party. An example of this is the fact that T1 connectivity and broadband are slowly becoming commodities. Once this happens, the network element delivering the service becomes an afterthought. A link to another article is here.

As another example, check out www.bandwidth.com. You will note that they have a hosted IP telephony solution that can be deployed in all 50 states. In addition the last offering they have is a bandwidth agnostic product. This means you can use any dedicated internet access (DIA) to access their products. This is a huge deal to the end user who wants to use the product but maybe is not comfortable switching providers. No problem.

Imagine a world where everyone can bring their own connectivity and purchase just the service delivered via IP….

It appears that we are on the brink of another communications revolution. Stay tuned for details.

As always contact me for details, questions, or assistance in choosing the right products for your enterprise.

Happy July !

Redundancy and Disaster Recovery

Disasters happen everyday. We read about them in the paper, hear them on the TV News, and of course on the radio in your vehicle. What does a disaster mean to a business ? In some cases the business model cannot survive after a disaster. Do you have redundant data connections into your locations ? Are you using multiple delivery methods ? How about multiple providers ? Do you have an off-site data storage or backup ? Do you even have a disaster recovery plan ?

Are you REALLY ready ?

If you are not sure if you are ready, then you’re probably not prepared. We should all believe in the wisdom of the Boy Scout Motto.. “Be Prepared”. When we are prepared for business situations, we continuously win.

The race to IP version 6

Are you aware that the current Internet Protocol scheme is changing ?  IP Version 4 is currently used in networking to support Area Networks and make the information flow correctly.  However the world is running out of IP addresses.

The new scheme adds a few more numbers to the IP address and will completely blanket the earth with possible addresses.

Is your companies hardware ready for this change?  It would be a pleasure to help you review your current infrastructure and provide a proactive plan for you to follow prior to this change.  It is always better to be ready, than to be the last in line.

As always, if I can help, please give me a call.
